Literary Death Match
Sunday, June 5, at the Aster Café, Northeast Minneapolis
Poetry Reading. Open Mic Night. Writers’ Salon. For readers and writers the mention of events like these evokes an incomparable excitement, but for those who don’t understand the joy in steely syntax or a metaphor heard for the first time there just isn’t much of a draw. Even Launch Party could fade into one’s secondary or tertiary plans compared to something like Guitar Hero Night or Battle of the Bands1. Yet if one’s routinely moody and indecipherable writer friend announced Sunday evening’s Literary Death Match—-even with that dreadful L word at the forefront of its title-—a night exploring the extensive beer menu at The Bulldog might sound a little lackluster. Who doesn’t love a fight to the death?
A Minnesotanism on Literary Death Match: it’s like poetry slam, but different.
